In 2007 Kevin Hedderwick did something – on behalf of Steers Holdings – that the business world unilaterally agreed was crazy. It was a turning point that saw Steers Holdings becoming the Famous Brands fast food colossus that it is today.
So what, exactly, did he do? He acquired Wimpy UK for R145 million, when Steers’ market cap was only R85 million. Oh, and he convinced a highly respected financial institution to help him do it.
Hedderwick’s unique brand of business leadership and strategic prowess was born out of years of experience, with business luminaries in the iconic companies for whom he worked – and a passion for business that borders on romantic love. In fact, by the time that he joined Steers, he had purchased and developed a few franchises of his own.
In this quick insight, extracted from a full-length interview, he reveals some of the key principles behind the successful business strategy which he adopted (and adapted) from blue chip companies such as SABMiller.
Keep an eye out for the full-length interview, due to be published here, next Wednesday, February 8 2017.
