Every business owner needs a content strategy, intentional, purposeful content on platforms where their target audience hangs out. Here are 5 keys to creating a content strategy:
#1 – Know your target audience: Know who they are, what they want, and where they hang out
#2 – Don’t try to be everywhere: Knowing where your audience hangs out tells you what platforms you need to spend time on
#3 – Learn from your analytics: Look beyond pageviews to determine which content has performed well, then think about how you can repurpose that or expand upon it. Look at your exit pages and think about how you can get readers to stay longer, lowering your bounce rate.
#4 – Diversify your content: Especially if you’re a blogger, don’t just write blog posts. Think outside the box and try audio, video, slideshows, webinars, live broadcasts, etc.
Repurpose existing or new content. One piece of content can be turned into multiple pieces of content in other formats to expand the reach, and keep you from content creation overwhelm.
#5 – Use an editorial calendar: Organization and time management are two keys to a successful content strategy. Create an editorial calendar, map out your content topics, and schedule each format of content, from written articles to video to live broadcasts, even email newsletters. This will save you time because you can batch create content and schedule it in advance.
